After a student sits out at Newberry College for 2 years, they are eligible upon completion of an additional 24 hours of coursework at the college, to apply for Academic Renewal of up to two sequential semesters of coursework. If a student chooses to apply, they understand they are forgoing the opportunity to earn academic honors. Additionally, a student cannot obtain Academic Renewal more than once in their career at Newberry College. Once a student is approved, the GPA is recalculated beginning with the semester they were readmitted. All hours attempted at Newberry will be calculated using the GPA after readmission and 2.0 on all grade hours taken prior to readmission. Courses in which the student received a passing grade prior to readmission can be applied toward the degree after discussion with the Office of Academic Affairs. The following statement will appear on the transcript and academic record if a student is granted Academic Renewal: “This student was granted Academic Renewal under Newberry College’s Academic Renewal program. The GPA was recalculated under this program criteria to allow for eligibility for graduation.” Finally, the permanent record will remain an unmodified record of all work completed.
