Program Learning Outcomes:
1. The program will prepare students for lifelong learning through developing critical thinking, oral, and written communication skills. Students will also be able to apply socioeconomic, religious, and political issues from an African American theoretical perspective to multiple disciplines.
2. The program supports the Newberry College mission to engage students in a global society through the study of diversity in the African diaspora in the United States and abroad. Students will learn critical and complex global issues in race and ethnicity while developing social responsibility necessary to thrive in an equitable and inclusive world. Also, the program teaches empathy and ethics for other cultures imperative to students’ personal growth and development.
