Title 38 United States Code Section 3679(e) School Compliance
For purposes of this policy, a covered individual is any individual entitled to educational assistance under Chapter 31, Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E), or Chapter 33, Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits. GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Additional information regarding VA educational benefits is available on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website at https://www.va.gov/education/.
Newberry College permits any covered individual to attend or participate in a course of education during the period beginning on the date the student provides the College with a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) for entitlement to educational assistance under Chapter 31 or Chapter 33. Acceptable documentation may also include a Statement of Benefits obtained through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website or VA Form 28-1905 for Chapter 31 authorization purposes.
This period shall continue until the earlier of the following dates:
- The date on which payment from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is received by the College; or
- Ninety (90) days after the date the College certifies tuition and fees following receipt of the student's documentation of eligibility.
Newberry College will not impose any penalty on a covered individual because of delayed disbursement of funding from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs under Chapter 31 or Chapter 33. Such penalties include, but are not limited to:
- Assessment of late fees;
- Denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities;
- Requiring the student to secure alternative or additional funding due to delayed payment of VA educational benefits.
Students remain responsible for providing all required documentation to establish eligibility for VA educational benefits and for satisfying any portion of tuition, fees, or other institutional charges not covered by those benefits.
