Bachelor of Science

Information Technology

Division Dean:  Bret Clark, Ph.D.

Department Chair:  Steve Lambert, Ph.D.

The Information Technology major is offered online through the College’s partnership with RIZE Education. This allows for virtual instruction from experts in the field of IT while attending Newberry and fulfilling other graduation requirements in a traditional environment. Information Technology is being added to the curriculum as a step down from the Computer Science degree, which is offered as a more mathematical major. This program is intended to build off of a strong liberal arts foundation, while providing students with the most relevant skills in Information Technology. These skills include both hard skills and soft skills. Common technical skills include database management, operating system knowledge, programming, technical writing, and hardware deployment. In terms of building soft skills, this program seeks to leverage the traditional strengths of small colleges, which excel at providing skills in communication and critical thinking, two incredibly vital skills in Information Technology.
