The Newberry College Teaching Fellows Program is a four-year leadership development program designed to prepare outstanding future educators who exemplify excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and leadership. As a selected Teaching Fellows institution of the South Carolina Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA), the program develops teacher leaders who are committed to improving education and positively impacting schools, communities, and the teaching profession.
Through a carefully sequenced series of seminars, leadership experiences, service-learning, professional development, and mentoring, Teaching Fellows engage in meaningful opportunities that extend beyond the traditional teacher preparation curriculum. Fellows examine educational leadership, advocacy, diversity and inclusion, educational policy, inquiry, professional ethics, and innovative instructional practices while building strong relationships with peers, faculty, practicing educators, and community partners.
The program emphasizes servant leadership, reflective practice, collaboration, and continuous professional growth. By graduation, Teaching Fellows are prepared to enter the teaching profession as knowledgeable, ethical, and innovative educators who are equipped to lead classrooms, schools, and communities while advancing educational excellence throughout South Carolina.
