PHE 120: Foundations of Recreation and Parks
The course introduces students to the background, nature, and scope of the recreation and parks profession. The course will emphasize parks and recreation's history, philosophy, and social nature and prepare students to major in recreation and parks.
PHE 211: Professional Recreation and Parks
Designed to explore the nature and significance of recreation and parks programs. Exploration of various types of agencies which deal with recreation, parks, and tourism in a community.
PHE 431: Program Planning and Opportunities in Recreation and Parks
To provide students with information about opportunities and the basic principles and planning guides necessary for planning quality recreation and parks activities, programs, and organizations.
PHE 495: Recreation and Parks Internship
Supervised internship from 45-540 hours (contingent on approved credit hours from 1-12) in a recreation or park organization, business, or agency. Supervision is provided by faculty and also by personnel at the host site. Directed field experience and training in organization and industry infrastructure, including operations, facilities, marketing, finance, and programs/services. Demonstration of competencies needed in the profession. Limited to majors in the Administration of Recreation and Parks. Culminating semester of ARP.
