Additional Guidelines for Home School Graduates
Admissions Policy for Home School Students
Home-schooled students applying for admission to Newberry College must meet the following academic requirements based on their home school association and program completion:
Option 3 Home School Students (South Carolina)
Students who have received a certificate of completion from a home school association listed under Option 3 of the South Carolina home schooling statute (S.C. Code Ann. ยง 59-65-47) must meet the following standardized test requirements:
- ACT: Minimum composite score of 18
- SAT: Minimum total score of 1000, with individual section scores of:
- Math: 520
- Reading/Writing: 480
Financial Aid Eligibility
Admitted home-school students who are South Carolina residents may be eligible for the following financial aid programs:
- Federal Title IV Aid (e.g., Pell Grant, Federal Student Loans)
- State Scholarships (LIFE, HOPE, Palmetto Fellows, and related enhancements)
However, these students are not eligible for the South Carolina Tuition Grant (SCTG), as SCTG eligibility requires a traditional high school diploma, GED, or Adult Education Diploma

Disclaimer for Out-of-State or Other Home School Programs
Students who have completed a home school program outside South Carolina or through a program not listed under South Carolina's Option 3 may have their qualifications and program accreditation reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Additional standardized testing (ACT/SAT) may be required to determine eligibility for admission.
