The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy is a fully online degree advancement program designed for licensed and credentialed respiratory therapists seeking to earn their baccalaureate degree from Newberry College. Newberry Online courses are 7.5 weeks per subterm. Students can take a maximum of 15 credits per semester (two sub-terms).
The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) program will equip students with additional knowledge, skills, and attributes in leadership, management, education, and research to meet professional goals.
Program Learning Outcomes
1. Apply advanced respiratory care knowledge, critical thinking, and clinical judgment to support safe, effective, and patient-centered healthcare delivery across diverse populations and settings.
2. Evaluate and apply current trends, research, evidence-based guidelines, and quality improvement principles to enhance patient outcomes and healthcare system performance.
3. Demonstrate effective communication, leadership, and interprofessional collaboration in healthcare, community, and organizational environments.
4. Integrate ethical principles, legal requirements, and professional standards into clinical and organizational decision-making.
5. Analyze healthcare systems, public health priorities, emergency preparedness, and population health factors to promote patient safety, community well-being, and continuity of care.
Admission Requirements for BSRT
The following requirements must be fulfilled to be accepted to the Newberry College BSRT degree-advancement program:
- Graduated from a CoARC-accredited associate's degree program in Respiratory Therapy or Respiratory Care from a regionally accredited institution with a 2.0 GPA or better*
- Active CRT/RRT NBRC credential (verified on the National Board of Respiratory Care database)
- Active state license to practice Respiratory Therapy or work as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
*Note: Students with a diploma in respiratory from a CoARC-accredited program in Respiratory Therapy will be required to complete the online core curriculum as well as and the BSRT required coursework.
Core Requirements: BSRT students must meet the Newberry College Online Core requirements. The Registrar's Office evaluates transfer credit for previous college-level coursework on an individual basis. A student must have a minimum of 120 earned credit hours to be eligible to graduate with a bachelor's degree.
Newberry College has an articulation agreement with the South Carolina Technical Colleges for students who earned an AAS or AS in Respiratory Therapy from one of their institutions.
